Doug was born and raised in London, where he lives with his wife and cat. He studied technical theatre at the BRIT school. His working life started at the Barbican, where his role as Lighting Technician was split between the Royal Shakespeare Company and BITE. He gained huge and varied experience of repertory theatre as well as working with a wide variety of international companies in theatre, dance, and music.

As Head of Lighting for the Old Vic Theatre he worked closely with some of the worlds best creative teams and was involved in producing over 20 shows in his 6 years there. He has also toured internationally with Richard III (starring Kevin Spacey, directed by Sam Mendes), The Black Rider (music by Tom Waits, directed by Robert Wilson for the Barbican),and most recently Barbarians for Hofesh Shechter. Doug has also toured in the UK, most recently with The Notebook for Forced Entertainment. He works regularly for The National Theatre and The Barbican, as well as on numerous other projects in a variety of roles.
